Clinical Training
Clinical Training
My first job after completing my undergraduate degree was at Burt Children’s Center, a residential treatment center in San Francisco. I loved this work and continued on at BCC for four years in various positions, including therapist and Medical Coordinator. At Burt Center, I began to learn psychodynamic theory in practice and it became clear to me that I wanted to continue on to become a psychologist.
While studying for my Master’s degree at Harvard, I completed a year-long clinical internship with adolescents in rural Appalachia for a program called the Appalachian Mountain Teen Project. This position was unique in the sense that I acted as both a counselor and an advocate for teens and their families in the school and afterschool settings.
After returning to the Bay Area, I took a position at an early childhood education center through a program called The Link to Children, in Oakland. I spent two years at the center, providing play therapy to preschool aged children and their families and acting as a Mental Health Consultant to school staff at Blue Skies for Children.
I then went on to work at an outpatient mental health setting for adults called The Marina Counseling Center, in San Francisco. I worked at MCC for two years, providing both short-term and long-term depth therapy to adults individually.
I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Marin County Community Mental Health Services in San Rafael. At this internship, I worked with children and adolescents individually, I co-led therapy groups for adolescents and adults, and I conducted family therapy.
I then completed a post-doctoral internship over two years, at Clearwater Counseling and Assessment Services in Oakland. During my internship at Clearwater, I saw clients of all ages in therapy, I co-led DBT groups for adolescents and adults, I ran an intake line, and I conducted educational and psychological assessments.
These experiences have been diverse, and they have all informed my understanding of development, family dynamics, socio-cultural considerations, and healing, among other things. All of these positions have been wonderful in terms of supervision and training, and this background continues to influence my work. >back
